The Challenge
NCC Group has a diverse and globally distributed workforce, many employees work remotely, some are based at client sites, while others frequently travel for work. While this flexibility is essential for business, it presented a challenge: how could NCC Group bring people together, encourage movement, improve mental health, and build team spirit, regardless of where employees were located in the world?
The company had previously tried platforms like Strava, but it quickly became clear that it wasn’t the right solution. Strava was expensive, clunky to manage for large-scale corporate challenges, and catered to serious athletes rather than encouraging participation from all fitness levels. As a result, engagement was limited, and it didn’t deliver the wellbeing experience NCC Group wanted.
Looking for a more inclusive, cost-effective, and engaging platform, the company turned to Climategames.
The Solution
Climategames stood out with its unique combination of employee engagement and environmental impact.
Unlike other platforms, Climategames offered:
- Flexibility & variety – unlimited and customised challenges to suit all fitness levels.
- Multi-Team access – multiple users can organise challenges.
- A positive purpose – the majority of funds directly support ecological restoration projects.
- No hidden costs – no platform or app fees, making it easy to scale participation.
“It’s early days but we’ve got a steady core group of colleagues engaging in the platform. We’re running this alongside our soon to launch Climate Literacy Training, and have just published our draft Carbon Reduction Plan so it’s the start of the conversation. We’ve had a couple of teams take up month-long wellbeing challenges using the platform, and it’s a great way to get everyone talking about climate action and wellbeing at the same time.” Yvonne Harley, Director of Investor Relations and Sustainability at NCC Group.
The Results
By adopting Climategames, NCC Group created a series of fun, competitive challenges that got employees moving and connecting, whether they were at home, a client site, or on the move. Teams not only improved their physical and mental well-being but also contributed to restoring the planet with every challenge completed.
So far exercise has planted 1020 trees and removed 16.1kg of plastic.
A Win-Win for People and the Planet
For NCC Group, Climategames turned wellbeing into something bigger than just a fitness goal, uniting employees in a common goal, encouraging friendly competition and motivating people to move, all the while having a measurable positive impact on the environment.
