The National Running Show was a win for the planet

The National Running Show was a win for the planet

This year’s National Running Show reminded us why running is about so much more than finish times, PBs, or the latest carbon-plated shoe, there was a genuine appetite to talk about how our love of running can also be a force for good for the planet.

We spoke to runners of all backgrounds: first-timers just discovering the joy of a 5km, ultra runners clocking up wild mileage, club runners, parkrunners, commuters who run to work, and people who simply love being outdoors on their own two feet. What united them wasn’t just running, but a shared curiosity about how everyday movement can matter more and what the running community can do to help restore the planet.

People stopped to ask lots of questions:

How does Climategames actually work?

Does it work alongside other apps?

Why isn't everyone else doing this?

Can I tell my run club about you?

What stood out most though was how natural the connection is between running and climate action. No one needed convincing that movement matters or that we need to help restore the planet.

It was also easy to see how runners are so intune with what makes climate impact work - consistency, small steps, long-term goals, and showing up even when it’s hard and how beautiful the places are where we love to run.

Those same principles sit at the heart of climate solutions, consistency with commitment, with showing up for the planet and protecting the places we love. Whether it’s choosing to run instead of drive, supporting greener events, protecting local routes, or simply starting conversations within running clubs, the impact adds up.

The National Running Show wasn’t about perfection, in fact we spoke to many people about imperfect environmentalism, it was about momentum, about showing people they can do something, and that’s where Climategames thrives.

By turning everyday actions into collective progress, and proving that climate engagement doesn’t have to be overwhelming or boring, it can be active, social, and genuinely fun.

We are already looking forward to next year.
