Outdoor Swimmer launches 2026 Swim Leagues

Outdoor Swimmer launches its 2026 Swim Leagues which connect swim training with climate action throughout the year.

Available now on the Climategames app and open for everyone to join, the Outdoor Swimmer swim leagues are aimed at engaging swimmers in movement and converting this movement into climate impact.

The 2026 January Swim Walk Challenge:

It's hard to swim long distances outdoors in January - but you can still walk beside water and get those blue-space benefits. And if you do a winter dip, walking is a great way to warm up after. Besides, walking is a great way to supplement your swimming.

We're therefore setting you a swim or walk challenge for January - can you swim and walk a combined total of 75km in the month?

Through Climategames, this challenge could help remove up to 2 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere by supporting the Sapphire Wind Power Company Ltd in Pakistan.

Sapphire Wind Power Project comprises 33 GE wind turbines and delivers clean energy to the national grid. From Nov 2015 to Mar 2024, the project has displaced 966,203 MWh of electricity from fossil fuel-based power plants in Pakistan. This amount of energy is equivalent to 483,100 tCO2e. The project delivers ~130,000 MWh/year and reduces ~65,000 tCO2e/year.

The 2026 Training League:

Join our 2026 Training League, keep track of how many kilometres you swim, see how that compares with your fellow swimmers, and help us remove up to 150kg of plastic from the ocean. That's something like 5,000 plastic bottles.

Last year, 93 swimmers joined our league, planting the equivalent of 930 trees. They covered a combined distance of 11,940km - something like swimming from London to Buenos Aires.

Could you help us exceed that in 2026?

It doesn't matter how much you swim. Set a target that matches your swimming aims, and join up. It's participation that counts, not distance. Whatever you do, if you join the league, you will make a difference.

This year, we're supporting the ReSea Project. The ReSea project is a clean-up initiative which is community-driven, engaging people in local communities in Indonesia in the Greater Jakarta area, to recover plastic waste from heavily polluted oceans and rivers.
