How Silverstone brought people together through movement, friendly competition and ocean conservation.
The challenge
Employee engagement doesn't always need to happen in a meeting room. Sometimes, the best way to bring people together is to get outside, get moving and give everyone a shared purpose.
Silverstone wanted to create an engaging lunchtime activity that encouraged colleagues to take a break from their desks, connect with one another and engage with environmental action in a fun, accessible way.
The solution: Move for nature
Working with Climategames, Silverstone organised a lunchtime walk around its iconic race circuit, giving colleagues the opportunity to get outside, enjoy some fresh air and support a positive environmental cause.
Using the Climategames app, participants could take part in the activity while contributing to ocean conservation. Every participant who joined helped fund the removal of plastic from the ocean through a verified environmental project.
The walk combined movement, friendly competition and environmental purpose — turning an ordinary lunch break into something more meaningful.
The impact
Better wellbeing
Colleagues stepped away from their desks, enjoyed time outdoors and incorporated movement into their working day.
Fun and friendly competition
The Climategames app added a competitive element, encouraging people to participate, challenge colleagues and make the most of the experience.
Conversations about nature
The environmental mission gave colleagues something positive to talk about, raising awareness of ocean plastic pollution and demonstrating how everyday actions can contribute to a bigger goal.
Environmental action made simple
Participants could connect their activity with ocean conservation directly through the Climategames app, making environmental impact tangible and accessible.
Why it worked
The success of the activity came from bringing three things together: movement, connection and purpose.
Rather than asking employees to attend another presentation about sustainability, Silverstone created an experience where people could participate, have fun and contribute to environmental action together.
It demonstrated how businesses can make sustainability part of everyday working life while supporting employee wellbeing and stronger connections between colleagues.
The takeaway
Employee engagement and sustainability don't have to be separate initiatives.
By combining physical activity, friendly competition and environmental impact, Silverstone showed how a simple lunchtime walk can create a shared experience that benefits people and the planet.
